Boswellia powder

Also known as Indian Frankincense, resin from the boswellia plant is ground into a powder containing boswellic acid. This has proven to be a favourite alternative to bute, and is found in research to be chondro-protective as well. Boswellia however is very gentle on the whole gastrointestinal tract and safe for long term use, and has in fact shown to be very useful in maintaining normal colonic function.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)

Discovered in 1951, Alpha Lipoic Acid is rapidly becoming regarded as THE metabolic antioxidant, and seems set to be ranked in importance alongside Vitamin C and E. ALA serves as a coenzyme in the Krebs cycle and in the production of cellular energy. It is termed the Universal antioxidant as it can neutralise free radicals in both watery and fatty tissues, unlike vitamin C which is only water soluble, and Vitamin E which is only fat soluble.

ALA also plays an important role in the function of other antioxidants within the body. It directly recycles and extends the metabolic lifespans of vitamin C, glutathione, and coenzyme Q10, and it indirectly renews vitamin E. It has therefore become the subject of intense research into it’s use in the management of metabolic conditions strongly associated with oxidative damage.

Methyl-sulphonyl-methane (MSM)

MSM is one of the best bio-available sources of organic sulphur and is also useful for inflammation. Organic sulphur is important in the formation of connective tissues collagen and keratin, which are the bases for healthy bones and joints, and hooves respectively.
